
This is a
very large red oak
box with walnut trim and wooden hinges. This box measures 21.5" x 14" x
7" high and is 3/4" thick. The carcass is crafted using 3/4" red oak premium ply for
stability. It features walnut dowels in the solid oak corners for both
strength and style. The base consists of a solid oak and walnut trim.
The lid perimeter is solid 3/4" red oak
mitered at 45 degrees and includes #10 biscuits at the miters for strength. The walnut frame
on top is doweled at the mitered corners and incorporates an inlay with
a southwestern motif. The focus of the lid is the
pommel burl in the
center.

The top tray and bottom divider
are crafted using solid lyptus. The bottom of the top tray is inset into groves cut into
the bottom inside of the tray sides. The sides are put together using
half lap joints. The inner tray and divider corners incorporate red oak
quarter round.
The bottom of the box and tray
are lined with tanned deer skin that is buttery soft to the touch. The
skin has been tanned rust colored.

The sapele pommel burl
veneer used in the crafting of this box is adhered to a 3/4" red oak
substrate on both the top and underside.

The
solid wood corners of the box are
doweled using walnut dowels bored 2" into the carcass substrate.

The underside of the lid is
framed around the sapele pommel burl. The lyptus hinges are inset into
the lid.

The wooden lyptus hinges accent
this heirloom box. The barrels are 3/4".
